Autumn is my Favourite Season

I have always loved Autumn/Fall. My Brother would tell you it is because my Birthday falls in October but don’t believe a word of it. It is because the world becomes a rich pallet of my favourite colours; rich russets and burnt oranges. I enjoy the crisp air and the dramatic light over the landscape on my early morning walks. As a child I delighted in shuffling through the rustling fallen leaves. Not to mention the harvest festival and Halloween parties that add a little fun and celebration to as the longer winter nights draw in.

You can list ten items completely for free or sign up to become a verified member for just $7 per month for life. This entitles you to list as many items as you want and has other perks go to Register on ArtFire.com for more details or to sign up for verified membership. Hurry only about 1300 $7 subscriptions left after that it goes up to $20 per month.

It is always free to buy handmade on Artfire and they have just set up a no sign up check out so buying couldn't be easier. No hassle and no commitment.

I am very excited about the future of Artfire which is still in beta mode. They already have more features than etsy and the whole project is run in a much more adult and organised way. They are listening to what buyers and sellers want and they are wasting no time making suggestions reality. I see this venue as being the first realistic competitor to eBay and etsy.

Well I finally managed to get back onto my blog and so much has happened since I last posted.
I moved to Ireland From Birmingham in the UK, I'll post some pics soon. I have sold loads of jewellery on etsy, my website, and several craft fairs locally. Its been a good year. The Irish love handmade!
I had to give up my degree when the standing and running around at the Radiotherapy Department while on placement for my Radiotherapy course and BCU got too much for my still fully healing broken leg but it obviously lead my family and I to this gorgeous quiet Irish rural town so no hard feelings. I will resume the course at Trinity College Dublin in the not too far future but for now I am enjoying the time with my children and my studio.

This pendant was a very labour intensive piece but fun to make. A double sided pendant made from solid sterling and fine silver wire woven like rattan. It is surrounded by square wire with a tube top for a bail. I have added ball chain dangles to catch the eye. One side I've enamelled turquoise and the other purple, so it's great to wear with a summer outfit then can be turned for that night out.The pendant will be supplied with a black or brown leather cord with sterling silver findings attached.

I want to talk about something a bit different than my usual knitting and yarn content. I want to talk to you about Etsy and to ask for your help with something.

As many of you probably already know, Etsy is a selling venue for items that are handcrafted. Most of you know Etsy for the hand dyed and handspun yarn, but Etsy is full of amazing shops that sell everything from art to pottery to purses to clothing to jewelry to paper goods to . . . well, you get the idea! The list could go on and on. If a mind can conceive it and a person can create it, you’ll likely find it somewhere on Etsy.

Etsy’s tagline is “Your place to buy & sell all things handmade” but the vision behind Etsy goes beyond that. When Etsy drafted their “Do’s and Don’ts” for buying and selling on Etsy, the original draft included a preamble that talked about the vision of creating a marketplace where there is a connection between buyer and seller. It referenced days past when the items people purchased were often purchased directly from the hands that made them. This vision appeals to me enormously. Although there is certainly a vital place in our world today for mass-produced goods, the idea of purchasing some of our goods directly from the maker is wonderful.

I’ve been selling on Etsy now for over a year and I can personally attest to the satisfaction and joy that this relationship between buyer and seller has brought to me. My customers are more than customers to me. They are very real people, infinitely human, full of kindness and spirit, sharing a common passion for yarn and fiber arts. The day to day interaction we have is a wonderful and unexpected gift that has added something meaningful to my life. I am extraordinarily grateful to the mad geniuses behind Etsy for bringing the venue to life.

Etsy is still a very new venture, but it is thriving and growing and I want to see that continue. This got me to thinking about what more I can do to help with that, not for my shop specifically but for Etsy as a whole. I want to do my part to give back to the Etsy creators, owners and staff, as well as to the amazing community of artisans with shops on Etsy. That’s where this post comes in. And that’s where you come in.

Today, I would like to ask that any of you who have blogs consider posting a little something about Etsy. This is not a request that you talk about my shop, but simply that you join me in shouting to the online world that Etsy exists and is all about a good thing. It’s a venue that is providing an amazing opportunity for artisans to reach the world and share their work. It’s a venue that allows buyers a connection and interaction with the talented people making the goods sold there. It’s a place of innovation and enlightenment, forward thinking, care and concern about the environment, and appreciation of the value of human ingenuity and the creative process.

If you have a blog, this post is my request to you that you take a moment and tell your readers about Etsy and perhaps also ask that your readers join in and spread the word as well. Feel free to use any of what I’ve posted here or a link to this post if you find it worth repeating. If some of you choose to do this and some of your blog readers take up the cry as well, a chain can begin and we can do a great deal to spread the word in a short space of time.

Perhaps this is not something you’re interested in doing. I entirely understand that! But if you have found that the Etsy venue and the connections you’ve made with some of us who sell there have brought some small but positive addition to your life, I ask that you consider helping to spread the word. I know that many of you regularly mention Etsy sellers in your blogs, but this is a bit different. This is a more generalized shout to the world that Etsy is a place worth visiting and it is a specific request that others help spread the word. If you don’t have a blog, but would like to help spread the word, perhaps you could make a point of telling a few folks about Etsy who may not already know.

I have decided its time I lost some weight and got healthy again. I have been recovering from a serious non-union leg fracture of the tibia and fibula that needed titanium implants to repair. I was already a little overweight to start with but I have struggled since due to the lack of exercise.

I was introduced to a fantastic online diet resource that is completely free while browsing the etsy forums. Firechicktick a fellow etsy artist has set up a support group within this site for us etsians to help each other. At Sparkpeople you can track you food and exercise easily follow a plan or do you own thing, there is also a wealth of articles to read recipes and support groups all paid for by those advertising on the site not members. Click on the link above to find out more. I will be posting with my progress over the time I am loosing my weight so feel free to check back to see how I'm doing. I will be posting photographs soon.

The CGGE has finally been formed. I am a proud member and joint leader of this wonderful new Etsy street team. We have over 80 members so far. We are The Creative Glass Guild of Etsy (CGGE) or “Glass Guild” for short. We are in the process of designing a new banner for the group, I will post it here when it is finished.

We are a non-juried glass group that is open to everyone who uses glass as their medium. We ask all members to have 5 “glass” items in their shops at all times. Membership is based on inclusiveness and member involvement; not strict rules, organizational structures and exclusivity. We strive to create a team with diverse backgrounds and wide-ranging levels of success & experience. Therefore, we aim to welcome everybody who works with glass, despite their associations or current skill levels. We hope to foster a teaching environment where new members can learn from experienced mentors via shared knowledge and constructive critiques.The CGGE is steered by a leadership committee of 3-5 co-leaders, who rely on member input and majority rule to make decisions that affect the team. We are open to suggestions from our members and welcome initiative, creativity and diversity. The leadership committee may change at any time, based on who is passionate and dedicated to seeing this group become successful!.
